Shagun means good omen. It is the ritual exchange of blessings between two families; sweets for sweetness, dry fruits for prosperity, cash for blessing, a coconut for the grace of god. Shagun is given at several points in the wedding season: at the Roka, at the chunni chadhai, alongside the Sahe Chithi, and often as a ceremony of its own. It is never about the value of what is given. It is about the intention placed in the tray.
Shagun is a ceremony of blessings, where gifts are presented with love and intention. The groom receives a tilak, along with gifts such as a gold kada, chain and ring.
From the bride’s side: Kada Box, Ring Box, Chain Box, Lap Cover, Tika Thaal with Bowl, and Cash Box.
From the groom’s side: Chunni, Jewellery Box, Double Kada Box, Cash Box, Mehendi Cone Cover, and Bidh Potli.
Everything the exchange needs is handcrafted here in one place: thaals with covers, shagun envelopes, jewellery, ring, chain and kada boxes, ladoo, barfi and mithai boxes, suit and saree covers, potlis, lap covers and tissue baskets. Pieces are made by our artisans in India in matched palettes, so a full tray reads as one ceremony.
