What is the Sahe Chithi, and why does it matter?

The Sahe Chithi, also called the lagan patrika, is the formal letter in which the bride's family confirms the wedding date and muhurat to the groom's family. It is sent once the pandit has fixed the date, and it is delivered in person with mithai and shagun. It is the point at which the wedding becomes official between the two families.

How does the scroll get personalised, and which languages can I have it printed in?

The scroll is screen-printed on fabric in Hindi, English or Punjabi. Once your order is confirmed we email you to collect the details: the names of both families, the wedding date and muhurat, and anything else your pandit has specified. You reply, we print, and nothing is produced until you have seen and approved what goes on it.

Can this set be customised beyond the scroll?

Yes. Colour, embroidery and monogram customisations are available across the Palki, the Mithai Box and the Shagun Envelope, so the set can be matched to the rest of your wedding palette. Can you ship directly to the family receiving the letter, and how far in advance should I order?

Yes, and most of our customers do exactly that — the palki is meant to arrive at the groom's family's house, not yours. We ship across India and to 20+ countries including the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia and the UAE. Because the scroll is printed to your details, we ask for 3–4 weeks from the date you send them for delivery within India, and 4–6 weeks internationally. Write to us at orders@pataaree.com if your date has moved and you need it faster — we will tell you honestly whether we can make it.
